Handwritten land deed and related agreements

The Martin L. Goddard ephemera consists of account books, receipts, hand bills and product advertisements relating to a general merchandise store owned and operated by Goddard in Dutch Mills, Arkansas. Most of the material is addressed to Goddard; later receipts and bills of sale (c1920-1930) are addressed to C.W. Messicks, also of Dutch Mills, Arkansas. Among the papers is correspondence to Goddard from family members, friends, and colleagues.

"I am desirous of obtaining a good, shrewd Agent in your locality to handle my "goods". I enclose herewith a newspaper clipping which gives all the information that could be desired, and which explains itself. Thinking you are in a position to safely handle my goods..."

"Yours of the 26th with $2.00 enclosed is received- and I have to inform you that license for 12 months cash $5.00 and I can not issue license beginning May first for less than 12 mo $..."

"Your letter of the 10 of July came safe to hand. I was glad to hear from and want you to comense[sic] writing long [?] so you can get your letter rate before the mail up there. Old orders has bin[sic] satisfied and we settled up everything..."

"Please forward all my mail to Van Buren to me papers and letters also and don't let Aug[?] take these out of the post..."

"One agent M.F.M. Gedard[?] made a mistake on your insurance and charged you for three years instead of five [?] a three year policy but Mr Gedard[?] thinks you want a five year policy. I return your old note and a new note..."
